Story 1: She Thrives Spotlights

Andrea’s Story: Thriving Through Menopause

When the first hot flash hit me in the middle of a board meeting, I thought I was having a heart attack. The confusion, the anxiety, the sleepless nights… it felt like my body had betrayed me. For months, I felt lost and alone, mourning the woman I used to be.

My turning point came during a quiet morning with my devotional. I read, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” It hit me. This wasn’t a season of weakness; it was a season for a different kind of strength.

My Three Pillars of Power

  1. Faith over Fear: I started a “Pause & Pray” journal. Every time I felt overwhelmed, I wrote down a scripture and a prayer. It shifted my focus from my symptoms to God’s promises.
  2. Sisterhood: I opened up to two of my closest friends. We started a weekly walk-and-talk. Sharing our experiences made me realize I wasn’t alone. We cried, we laughed, and we held each other up.
  3. Radical Self-Compassion: I stopped fighting my body and started listening to it. I gave myself permission to rest when I needed to, to say “no” to things that drained me, and to invest in things that brought me joy, like my love for pottery.

Menopause didn’t break me. It broke me open. It led me to a deeper faith, a stronger community, and a more authentic relationship with myself. I am not just surviving; I am thriving.
